Coronavirus Update

Little League International operates more than 6,500 programs in more than 84 countries, and therefore, we recommend that our leagues exercise an abundance of caution and implement a temporary suspension of all league activities until no earlier than April 6.

From the Throop Little League Board:

The Throop Little League is an organization with the responsibility to look out for the best interests and safety of all the children in our organization.

According to the CDC, imported cases of this strain of Coronavirus, called COVID-19, that spreads person-to-person have been detected in Pennsylvania, including our neighboring County of Wayne, nearby Monroe, Pike, and across the United States and throughout the world.

While no reported cases have surfaced of Throop residents or of any players, Throop Little League board members, managers, coaches, or volunteers affiliated within the Throop Little League or even the Mid Valley League as being identified as suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, the CDC has speculated that more cases are likely to be identified in the coming days, including more cases in the United States and likely more cases here in Pennsylvania.

We anticipate an update by Little League International soon as we move into the early part of next week with additional guidance and precautionary measures that we should take as an organization on limiting the spread of this infectious disease. As of now, as an organization, one precautionary way to seek to immediately accomplish this goal until we are provided a more clear directive by Little League International is to eliminate group gatherings of any nature as it relates to children and volunteers of the Throop Little League.

For these reasons, effective immediately all group activities of the Throop Little League Organization including but not limited to mandatory and non-mandatory practices, group meetings, and public gatherings of any nature are suspended to give Little League International more time to address what has now been classified as a “global pandemic” and to allow LLI to provide guidance to local leagues as this outbreak continues to spread.

The Throop Little League Board will further monitor the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in Pennsylvania and to see how Little League International addresses the situation since it has been recently reclassified as a pandemic after Little League last posted on this topic.

Thank you for your time and prompt attention to this urgent matter.
